European Bee Week in Brussels

Today the Bee Week is starting in Brussels. Since 2012 it is organized every year, hosted by the European Parliament. This year’s theme is “Bees caring for Europeans. Europeans caring for Bees?”. The aim is to give different stakeholders and policy makers an opportunity to meet: representatives of European and national institutions, beekeepers, farmers, NGOs, scientists and industry. The event is starting today, 13 June with a scientific conference at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (University of Liège) and a Beekeepers and Farmers Forum at the European Parliament. Tomorrow, 14 June an International Conference will discuss the needs and challenges to protect pollinators with European policies. The focus of the Bee Week is on honeybees and beekeeping, but some of the talks and events adress pollinators in a more general way. Two panels deal with “Pollination and Environmental Challenges” and “Beekeeping-Agriculture Society: a sustainable model”. Visitors can explore the Bee Village on the European Parliament Explanade. It will be opened by Prince Albert from Monaco Tuesday morning.
